Life Application Activities
Life application of values is an essential element in a program where participants are learning how to walk with God every day. During Part 4 of every session (Personalizing the Voyage), leaders are provided with three different life application activities to help kids personalize what they have learned: Pickle Pot Problems, Travel Trunk Activities, and Large Group Activities. These options help kids answer the question, "What does this have to do with me?" Life application also encourages kids to apply what they have learned to everyday life by putting values into practice right away!

Pickle Pot ProblemsPickle Pot Problems
Pickle Pot Problems are real-life dilemmas that kids may face every day! These dilemmas can be photocopied onto the pickle shape (see the clipart in the Director's Guide) and placed in a pickle jar. Kids discuss each problem in their small groups and apply what they have learned to solve it.

Large group activities will encourage kids to work together and share what they have learned with one another. These activities creatively challenge kids to live out what they learned.

Travel Trunk ActivitiesTravel Trunk Activities
Each child also has an opportunity to participate in a Travel Trunk activity. These Travel Trunk activities will help kids personalize each session and remind them of what they have learned during the adventure. A variety of life application Travel Trunk activities are included in the program, one with each lesson. Kids will participate in a simple object lesson activity, which they can share with their family and friends when they go home. These objects go into the Travel Trunks and make a great review for after the Adventure is done.

In addition, there is a daily Travel Trunk activity in which the children create a "Walk With God" key chain. The key chain becomes a reminder of each of the godly values and Bible stories they have learned. On a card, kids are encouraged to write down one goal for each value they discovered during the lesson. The kids then place the key chain in their Travel Trunk to serve as a review of the values learned during the lesson and a way that each child can put the lesson into practice in a specific and personal way in their own life.

See our product brochure to order enough Travel Trunks for each participant in your program (or create your own Travel Trunks with the kids). A sample Travel Trunk is provided in the kit. Click here to see the Travel Trunk order information.

Large Group Activities
Participants are also encouraged to wrap up each session with a large group activity that reinforces what they have learned. These activities get everyone talking about, thinking about, and planning how to help each other to walk with God every day.

At the end of each session, kids are provided with two great resources to take home. The first is a Family Connections Page, which helps encourage the entire family to review what was learned. This page is filled with a variety of activities in which everyone participate.

The second resource is a take-home letter from Bob and Larry, who are excited about their involvement in Jonah: An Overboard Adventure! and who want to make sure that kids know God loves them very much!
